If you have been to Target, Game Stop, or, well, pretty much any other store lately, you have seen the cute and collectible figures from the Pop! line by Funko. They have taken the pop culture merchandise world by storm and covered characters from The Beatles, Star Trek, Dr. Seuss, and yes… Disney.
Funko has even created bi-monthly subscription boxes for their biggest franchise lines, Star Wars, Marvel, and DC Comics. Well now, Disney fans can rejoice as the upcoming box is Disney Treasures, a box stuffed to the brim with Funko-crafted goodness.
Fans of the previously-established boxes enjoy items ranging from Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas ornaments to Darth Vader socks. It all depends on the month’s theme! Of course, the spotlight item for every box is the Funko Pop! figure that is only available through that subscription box. Disney Treasure’s first theme will be Pirates Cove and features the very first Pop! of Peter Pan’s Mr. Smee! We love the way this little guy looks and will be a great addition to a Disney fan’s collection.
If you know about Funko’s famous Pop! line, you probably know that they already have an extensive line of Disney figures available. From Mickey Mouse to Wreck-It Ralph, there are nearly 200 characters already available. Oddly enough, however, some characters such as Aladdin and Daisy Duck have never been made and we’re hoping that’s fixed with the Disney Treasure boxes.
Like all things extremely collectible, some are more rare and valuable than others. It’s not too hard to find a Pop! of good old Mickey at your local shop, but a Tigger Pop! can set you back $295 thanks to limited batches initially made. Yet all pale in comparison to the one-time batch Disney Parks Exclusive Haunted Mansion Ghost Pop!s which, at their most expensive, are worth $330 each.
Yes, these prices are astronomical for figures that retail for $10.99. But it seems that Disney and Funko found a way to make both the casual fan and avid collector happy. They have recently made variants of the extremely expensive Pop!s. For example, Winnie Pooh’s first Pop! is still worth $191.50, but they have recently released a version of our favorite bear sitting down, which is an entirely different figure. You can find this version in tons of stores right now for the basic retail price. We’re hoping to see some of these variant versions of rare characters such as Sully, Zurg, and the aforementioned Tigger to complete our line up without killing our wallets.
Funko rarely reveals what waits inside their packages, and this surprise is half the fun of finding it waiting at your door. We can’t get to get out hands on one of these fun boxes!
